Valentine's Day Clean-Up Tips

Valentine’s Day Candle Wax Tips

King’s Chem-Dry hopes that you have a safe and happy Valentine’s Day! While Valentine’s Day can be a fun-filled day, it can be hard to clean up afterwards. Candle wax spills can especially frustrate you, as a candle’s unique texture cannot be taken care of by traditional methods. As we are the experts in carpet care and cleaning, we would be happy to show you some top secret tips and tricks that are sure to help you get the job done!

Things You Will Need

- Ice

- Waterproof Ziploc Bag

- Dull Knife

- Paper bag or Clean White Cloth

- Cleaning Cloths/Towels

- An Iron

- Carpet Cleaning Solution (optional)

  1. Try to address the spill as promptly as possible when the spill occurs, so it doesn’t sink too much into your carpet.
  2. Fill the waterproof Ziploc bag with ice. We’re trying to freeze the wax so that it’s easier to get the big bits of wax off of the carpet. It’s extremely important that the candle wax is not getting wet from condensation or water leaking from the bag. Moisture can potentially make the stain more of a nuisance to clean up, so please use caution here.
  3. Now take your dull knife and scrape the candle wax off as well as you can.
  4. For this step, you can use either a brown paper bag or a clean white cloth. Take whichever material you would like and spread it over the affected area. Get your iron plugged in and warm it up. However, be sure not to let the iron get too hot because you can singe the fibers in the surface.
  5. Start running the warm iron over the bag/cloth. The candle wax should melt as you run it across the area. As the substance melts, it should transfer onto the warmer surface (which will be the brown paper bag or clean towel). It might be necessary to try this a couple times to get all of the wax out. Just be sure to use a clean, fresh paper bag or towel each time.
  6. Little pieces of wax might still be present in the carpet. These small bits are very easy to clean up. Just take a small damp cloth and vigorously rub the leftover stained area. You can always use a store bought carpet cleaner on the stained area, if needed.

At King’s Chem-Dry, you’ll always have the support to conquer whatever problems may arise with your carpet. Be sure to keep these tips handy!

Granite Countertop Renewal

*Based on studies conducted by independent laboratories of Chem-Dry’s HCE (Hot Carbonating Extraction), P.U.R.T. (Pet Urine Removal Treatment), Granite Countertop Renewal, and Tile, Stone & Grout cleaning processes. Allergens tested were dog and cat dander and dust mite allergen. Pet odor results based on testing with the most common odor sources found in dog and cat urine. Pet urine bacteria results based on Chem-Dry’s HCE cleaning process and a sanitizer, combined with P.U.R.T. All bacteria results include use of sanitizer. Figures are an average across multiple tests.
